WATER PROGRAM

Volunteers on this team assist in setting up each water station with cups filled with water. Volunteers maybe assigned to work at one of 7 water stations. Each water station has a manager from whom directions are given. During the race the volunteers hand out water to runners needing fluids. After the final runner has passed, the volunteers assist in cleaning the entire area affected by the hundreds of cups thrown by the runners. This includes, sweeping and or raking up cups on the ground, emptying water from cups not handed out, placing empty water jugs into bags for recycling crew, breaking down empty boxes for trash. Folding up tables and stacking all equipment into a pile for crew to come by later for retrieval. Volunteers are asked to dress comfortably and accordingly to the weather, wear sturdy shoes and are able to get wet. Being able to work quickly and independently with little instruction and physical strength is a plus.

The time commitment for this job is from 5:30 AM until approximately 10:30 AM. All stations are asked to be set up and ready to hand out water by the time the gun goes off at 8:00 AM It is important to remember, that these times may be adjusted by the water station manager. Most of the roads involved for the race course close by 7:00 AM and access is strictly limited. Our work is on the race the course so arriving early allows extra time to find the necessary parking and prepare the stations.

Many of our water station volunteers are repeat volunteers. We encourage families to participate at the water stations; children as young as seven can help with this important task with adult supervision. We ask that you monitor your children closely during the peak passing of the runners to avoid injury. We have a lot of fun with each other and with the excitement of the event we are left with such gratification that we helped out the runner. A real team spirit is created at each water location.
