Entries into Sold Out TD Beach to Beacon 10K Still Available from My Place Teen Center, the 2016 Race Beneficiary

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (April 21, 2016) – Runners still looking for a spot at the start line of the sold-out TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race can secure a bib from My Place Teen Center, the race’s 2016 race beneficiary, in exchange for fundraising.

As of today, 119 bibs were still available from My Place Teen Center  and 14 prior race beneficiaries. The charity organizations each year are allotted highly-coveted race entries by the TD Beach to Beacon and TD Bank to utilize in fundraising efforts.

“Getting into the race through our beneficiaries is perhaps the most fulfilling way to participate in the TD Beach to Beacon,” said Race President Mike Stone. “We appreciate runners who make fundraising part of their race experience. It’s a great way to receive a bib and also help out My Place Teen Center or one of the other former race beneficiaries.”

He also encouraged clubs and civic groups looking for a charity activity that combines physical fitness with philanthropy to secure bibs from one or several different race charities.

The TD Beach to Beacon 10K  filled 4,000 slots online in a record-setting three minutes and 43 seconds last month, and the lottery that followed filled the remaining 1,950 spots. This year marks the 19th year for the popular international road race founded by Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson and set for Saturday, Aug. 6 in coastal Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

As 2016 beneficiary, My Place Teen Center , a free, year-round, after-school youth development program for kids in Greater Portland, will receive a $30,000 cash donation from the TD Charitable Foundation.

The TD Charitable Foundation has now donated $570,000 to Maine charities over the 19-year history of the TD Beach to Beacon , while many past beneficiaries continue to raise significant funds each year through the race’s charity bib program.

To sign up for a bib with My Place Teen Center, go to the TD Beach to Beacon page on their website: http://myplaceteencenter.org/B2B. As an added bonus, anyone who joins the MPTC team will be invited to participate in a special Q&A with Samuelson. For more information, contact Linda Douglass, linda@myplaceteencenter.org  or (207) 854-2800.

In addition, bibs are available from the following past beneficiaries  of the TD Beach to Beacon:

The race also will allow registered runner transfers  through June 30. The race will charge a $5 transfer fee. Cape Elizabeth residents registered in the 600 entries allocated to Cape Elizabeth residents can only transfer to another Cape Elizabeth resident.

The TD Beach to Beacon celebrates health, fitness and giving back. In 2015, a record-setting 6,602 runners from 15 countries, 41 states and more than 265 Maine cities and towns finished the winding, rolling, often breathtaking 6.2-mile coastal course. Thousands of spectators cheered runners along the tree-lined route and at the Portland Head Light-capped finish, and more than 800 volunteers helped ensure a smooth operation.

More than $90,000 in prize money is awarded to the top finishers and place winners in the various categories for men and women.
