Online Registration for 2015 TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race Set for March 12 and 13

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (January 12, 2015) – Runners who want a ensure spot at the starting line for the 18th TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race should mark their calendars for March 13 – and start getting their fingers in shape.

Last year all 4,000 slots allotted to the general public were filled online in a record four minutes, 32 seconds (4:32). Race organizers anticipate similar heavy demand in 2015, meaning runners must be prepared to fill out the online form as quickly as possible when general registration opens at 7 a.m. ET sharp on Friday, March 13.

The registration process for the Aug. 1 road race will begin Thursday, March 12 for host Cape Elizabeth residents only, then continue for the general public the next morning.

A lottery for 1,950 remaining slots will take place from March 13 through March 22, with lottery entrants announced on March 24.

Runners register at the race website, b2bdevelopment.wpengine.com . The race entry fee for 2015 is $50.

Here is the complete TD Beach to Beacon 10K registration schedule :

  • Thursday, March 12 at 7 a.m. ET: online registration opens for Cape Elizabeth Residents only. First come, first serve. Limit of 600. (All slots filled in less than seven minutes in 2014)
  • Friday, March 13 at 7 a.m. ET: online registration opens to general public. First come, first serve. Limit of 4,000.
  • The remaining 1,950 spots will be distributed by lottery, which will begin immediately after online registration ends. Participants can enter as an individual or as part of a team of up to six members. Registration for the lottery will be held from March 13 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. The lottery drawing will be on March 24. The race will charge a $5 fee to enter the lottery. Winner’s names will be posted on the race website.
  • The race will allow transfers from April 1 through June 30. The race will charge a $5 transfer fee. Cape Elizabeth residents registered in the 600 entries allocated to Cape Elizabeth residents can only transfer to another Cape Elizabeth resident.

Race organizers also emphasized that the “bandit” policy will be strictly enforced this year. After the transfer period ends on June 30, runners may not exchange bibs or run under another person’s bib or they will risk banishment from the race for future years.

Detailed registration information is available at b2bdevelopment.wpengine.com/2015registration .

After registration for Cape residents, the general public and the lottery is complete, the remaining bibs will be set aside for world-class athletes, sponsors and charities. Also, the 130 “Legacy” runners who have participated in every TD Beach to Beacon will be invited to register beginning March 1.

In addition, the race’s 2015 beneficiary, to be announced in February, as well as past beneficiaries will make bib numbers available to runners in exchange for fundraising and/or support.

Online registration for the Kids Fun Run – set for Friday, July 31 at Fort Williams – will begin March 17 and continue through June 30, however, parents can also register their children at the Expo on Thursday, July 30 (4-8 p.m.) or at the event, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The TD Beach to Beacon draws runners from throughout the region and the world to picturesque Cape Elizabeth. The race begins near the Crescent Beach entrance on Route 77, winds along tree-lined streets and past breathtaking ocean vistas, and ends in Fort Williams Park at the historic Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the world.

In 2014, a record-setting 6,494 runners from 14 countries, 42 states and more than 260 Maine cities and town finished the winding, rolling, often breathtaking 6.2-mile coastal course. Thousands of spectators cheered runners along the route and at the finish, and more than 800 volunteers helped ensure a smooth operation. The race debuted in 1998 with 2,408 runners crossing the finish line.

More than $60,000 in prize money is awarded to the top finishers and place winners in the various categories for men and women, and a $30,000 donation is provided each year by the TD Charitable Foundation to the race charity.
